The More You Know about How to Seal Tiling Grout, the Better Job You Can Do

Some people do not seal their grout, because they think that is going to be a hard or painstakingly slow process. I was recently reading a blog online about how sealing grout is the hardest thing that you couldn’t do. I wonder if this person that was blogging ever did any real hard work. Sealing grout is actually very easy. Even if you have never learned how to seal grout before, you can do it in less than 30 min., and you can learn how to do a good job.

The first thing you need to do is make sure that your lines are completely clean. Take a scrub brush, and go over all the lines just to make sure they are clean from dust and from dirt. If you haven’t cleaned them in a while, you’re going to want to use a grout cleaner to help you get them clean. If you just installed your tile, then you are actually putting your grout sealer down at the perfect time.

The next step to grout sealing is picking out a good grout cleaner. You want something that is durable and that is going to last. You also want something that is not too expensive. If they’re water-based sealer, it will do just as good of a job for the first eight months. I recommend using water based grout sealer because it is cheap, and it is going to do a pretty good job of protecting your tile and grout lines. We want to do is just apply it to the grout lines. You can use a bottle brush or a bottle roller to do it. It doesn’t take very long to go over your whole floor. If you have teeny tiny tiles, you may want to use a spray on grout sealer. This will save you some time. For large grout line, we do not recommend a spray on grout sealer, because it is hard to get the sealer on as thick as you really wanted, and, it is better if you don’t get the grout sealer on the tile.

Avoiding Bait and Switch Carpet Cleaning

The first thing most people do when they need their carpets cleaned is go to the Yellow Pages. They will start to do some research over the next couple of days, calling a few companies getting some prices. Then, something in the newspaper might catch their eye; an extremely low cost ad for cheap carpet cleaning. Many people will think “this is my lucky day”; however, this can turn into a nightmare if you are not careful. Many of the cleaners who advertise these prices are practicing bait and switch.

These cleaners can often book a lot of jobs by advertising these cheap prices. They are not concerned about the price they quoted a customer to book the job. This is because once they are in the home they will start to try to aggressively sell other services such as protectant and other products. Many of them will also try to charge extra for services such as vacuuming or applying the cleaning solutions. Many of these cleaners can be very aggressive in their sales tactics.

Even if you are incredibly intimidated do not give in. These cleaners are simply working on numbers. They know the more people that try and intimidate into higher prices, the more people that they will get to fall for it. If you simply refuse and ask them to leave most of them will pack up their stuff and go to the next customer.

To avoid these types of situations you should try to only work with trusted professional local carpet cleaners. You can obtain the names of several reputable cleaners by simply asking your neighbors or friends who they use. Paying just a little bit more for your carpet cleaning to receive a fair and quality cleaning should be worth it. This will help you steer clear of problems from the beginning.

Using online searches can be another great way to find a good cleaner. By simply searching for the company’s name you can find out a lot about how they do business. If they are treating people wrong it will probably show up on online ratings sites and even forums and blog posts. Just be aware even the best companies will have a few negative reviews from hard to please customers.

Solar Lights to Smarten Up your Outdoors

Electricity usage is on the rise and must be brought down especially in the light of growing environmental concerns. Scarce non-renewable resources such as natural gas and coal are used in the production of electricity. This fast depleting reservoir makes it important to look for alternative sources of electricity. Rising household electricity consumption is one area that needs to be addressed swiftly. You must look for ways to introduce solar power and reduce dependence on electricity.

Solar lighting, for instance is a great idea that is fast catching up amongst homeowners. Today, solar string lights for patio and solar lanterns for garden are some of the ideas that are being taken to quite seriously by environmental conscious homeowners.

Here are top benefits of solar lights for you to consider:

  • Improvement in solar lighting technology now makes it possible to get longer usage out of a single charge. Keep these units for charging during the day time and get a long lasting operation.
  • Solar lights are brighter than the conventional LED bulbs.
  • Many NGOs and government aided projects in developing countries are providing solar lanterns to the underprivileged sections of the society. The grim reality of today is that there are still areas where a robust electrical infrastructure is yet to see the light of the day.
  • The fact that there is no electricity dependence makes it possible to use as many lights as possible to get the desired ambiance. You can beautify your patio/garden space with an extensive solar lighting setup and plan out get-together events.
  • Bolster the security of your home by using solar lighting. Here’s how: A well-lit up property will act as a strong deterrent against burglars and aid law enforcement officers as they patrol your neighborhood.

Use solar lights to smarten up your outdoors in a cost-effective manner.  Buy branded products that can guarantee you a faultless and long-lasting operation.

Four Reasons You Want To Use A Grout Sealer To Seal Tile And Grout

If you’re interested in having your grout last longer, you need to make sure that it is properly sealed.  Not only does sealing your grout help your grout to last longer because it keeps out water and moisture, but it also keeps your grout from getting stained.  Stains can’t develop if they cannot soak in. When you seal your grout, it changes the surface of your grout from a porous and rough surface, to a smooth and nonporous surface.  Liquids will sit on the surface rather than soak in.  Dirt and grime will be reflected from the surface of your tile grout, rather than be absorbed into it.  You make it much easier to maintain your grout when you clean it and seal it on a regular basis.

Most people recommend sealing grout every 4 to 6 months.  The advantage of sealing grout is that you do not get water damage.  Water is one of the main things that damages your grout.  Over time, it can work its way down into the grout and underneath the tile.  This can start to eat away at the grout and tile, and also foster mold and mildew problems.  By sealing your grout, you avoid having extra moisture inside of your tile and grout.

The great thing about a grout sealer is that it is not that hard to find.  Basically all you have to do is completely coat all of the grout lines 2 or three times.  After it dries,  your grout will become completely sealed.  You can test it by putting water on your grout lines.  If it pools on the surface, then it means your grout is properly sealed.  If the water soaks into the surface, then you should probably use more grout sealer and do another application. This way, you will get the results that you really want to get in the first place.

Fridge Freezer Reviews and How to Understand Them

Many people choose to purchase new home appliances in the New Year sales, and with 2012 fast-approaching there’s never been a better time to upgrade your kitchen with the latest styles and trends.  However, due to the sheer amount of choice available to the end-consumer it’s not always that easy to decide which style and type of fridge freezer to purchase.

Here’s a short overview which has been written in order to give you some inspiration and guidance when choosing a refrigerator this year from the multitude of fridge freezer reviews that are online.

Counter Depth Refrigerator Reviews

A counter-depth fridge freezer is designed so that they do not stick out and protrude from your kitchen cabinetry.  If you have a fitted modern kitchen you should try and stick to cabinet and counter depth refrigerator reviews as these will suit your requirements a lot better – but remember to read the product dimensions before you purchase!  They will be a little bit smaller than standard refrigerators, but will make your kitchen look more stylish.

French Door Fridge Freezer Reviews

The French door style of refrigerator has come into its own over the last five years, and is named due to the inspiration the doors take from classic French home architecture.  Top brands in this section include Samsung, Frigidaire, LG, Electrolux, and Danby – all of which tend to receive high customer reviews and ratings on websites such as Amazon and Walmart.

Retro Fridge Freezer Reviews

There’s also a new market for retro refrigerators in the vintage and 1960s style.  Danby have a small retro vending fridge with the Coca Cola branding on it which is very popular.  If you don’t want a modern kitchen design then try the retro look – the more costly retro refrigerator reviews will tend to be the highly-regarded Smeg product line.  Admittedly though, retro fridges will never be as Energy Star efficiently rated as more modern designs due to limitation in capacity and internal spacing.

Comprehensive Refrigerator Reviews & Ratings

This is just a sample of some of the different styles that will be available online in 2012.  Should you wish to know about refrigerator reviews then the RR4U comes highly recommended on that previous link.  The website contains expert assessment of all brands and models and provides a price comparison engine should you feel that you want to purchase a new fridge freezer.  The prices are listed from cheapest to most expensive refrigerator meaning the customer can choose from a preferred retailer or just the best online deal.

Achieving Sustainability/Part One/ Reduce Consumption

Achieving sustainability should be approached in steps. The first step in any energy program is to reduce consumption. This does not mean you have to give up your comforts, it does however, mean that you need to adjust your thinking.

While everyone has heard of the benefits of florescent light bulbs, the reality is that while you may be drawing less power they typically don’t last any longer than a regular light bulb unless you purchase premium bulbs which cost so much you lose any chance at savings. I have found that Halogen bulbs are rated at almost the same or less wattage but produce more lumen’s more consistently than florescence. The  LED lighting option may also serve your needs and they last for years rather than months, however, your choice in this area are limited and expensive.

Lighting is the first, easy and direct step that you can take. The next step is to either lower you hot water heater thermostat or to put in a timer so that it only operates during usage times. Another option is to put in Instant Hot style water heaters which work very well in areas that do not have extremely hard water. Hard water mineral build up will quickly degrade instant hot style heaters. You also want to invest in a water heater blanket which will add insulation to help retain heat in your unit longer.

The next step is to lower your thermostat in winter and raise it in the summer. A difference of only two degrees can make allot more difference in consumption than you might realize.

Next is reducing your water consumption by installing low water rate faucet heads and shower heads. This step can be achieved by simply going to your local plumbing supply with all of your current faucet nozzle’s and have them give you water reducing replacement nozzle’s. An insert may be available for your shower heads as well.

At this point you are well on you way to reducing your total energy consumption. If you are adamant about not leaving lights on when they are not needed, turning off or unplugging things that have an instant on feature like your computer and TV can also reduce your power usage.

This overview, if followed, can make a 20 to 30% difference in your energy consumption and reducing your consumption is always the first step to Achieving Sustainability.

Simple Tips for a Gorgeous Home

Decorating your home need not be a gargantuan task. Most people spend a lot of time, money and effort trying to make their homes attractive. Creating the right look for your home can be achieved through these simple tips.

If you’re tired of waking up in that same old colour and theme, liven up your living space by re-painting. Instead of the usual single colour, try mixing up 2 or 3 different colours. Choose a bold colour to paint one side of your walls, this would draw attention, and at the same time make the room look trendy but casual. Paint your ceiling white to give your space a larger look. Use colours that will blend harmoniously. Never use colours that contradict.

Mirrors placed directly opposite your windows or doors will reflect the light from the sun making your room brighter. Large mirrors are better. You may opt for custom made mirrors, depending on the design and size that you want. You may also order it online or from the stores. If you’re on a tight budget, check your storage Edinburgh for your old mirrors that can still be used.

Flowers provide an added pizzazz to your home. Choose the colours well. You may use your own garden flowers or you can buy them from the stalls. Give your window sills a new look by decorating them with flowers in small, colourful pots. Potted colourful foliage may also be placed in wicker baskets to fill up an empty corner or a side table.

Draperies and curtains may be used as decorations too. Instead of using blinds, use curtains on your windows to filter the harsh glare of the sun from your room, this will also add an alluring look to your living space. Placing vanity dressers with drawers will provide a romantic look in your room. Any excess items can go in the extra space at Edinburgh self storage.

Contemporary Bathroom Renovations With Walk In and Outdoor Showers

The bathroom is definitely a spot all of us go to every day. Considering that we can’t get away from it, it makes sense to make it a place that we find pleasing. Especially when we want to take a long soak in a hot bathtub, or crave a massage from numerous shower heads in a stylish walk-in shower. But, most of us don’t have a dream bath. That doesn’t mean we have to abandon the idea, it simply means a bathroom renovation is required.

When you consider bathroom renovations, do you see several weeks of remodeling, or rather all of the fabulous changes that will come with the renovated bathroom? Or, possibly a little bit of each? Before undergoing construction, you will have to consider what you would like your finished, renovated bath room to be. The pointers below should guide you as you visualize your stunning new bath.

Many bathrooms contain a bath and shower combo. This arrangement is very useful, and space-saving within a modest bath. Though, it’s certainly not unique. But, what is even more appealing, not to mention restful, are walk in shower enclosures, or separate showers from tubs, as part of the bathroom.

Doing this is going to split the shower away from the tub, while opening up additional possibilities for the shower. You could add in a bench, or perhaps a steam shower unit. You can put in a shower system, containing a rain shower head, that can offer a lot more enjoyment that a single shower head arrangement. So, if you have the space, you should seriously check out pulling apart the combo bath and shower.

A beautiful, contemporary bathroom remodel idea is to insert an outside shower. Depending on your needs, outdoor shower enclosures can refer to a few contrasting models. One variety is a unit to rinse down soon after coming from a swimming pool, or back from the beach. One more version of outdoor shower is a portable camp shower.

Though, the model which will go well within a bath remodel is really a whole shower that you would use just like a usual shower. The difference is that it is designed out of doors. It could perhaps contain a portion completely opened up to nature, or instead be fashioned with glass walls to take in a beautiful landscape.

Organizing a bathroom reno needs lots of energy. There are expenses to consider, as well as deciding which portions you can work on by yourself, and what you have to have a specialist for. Then there are the details of your fixtures, finishes, and tile. But, if you approach the reno one phase at a time, and look at each of the options carefully, you will be excited about your plan – and the bath you’ve always dreamed about.
